Mold Toxicity Summit Outline of Presentation by Marcelle Pick MSN, OB-GYN, NP
- Mold illness can present in so many ways
How did I get here, how do I go from here?
- Infertility
- Fibromyalgia
- PMS
- Addictions
- Fatigue/mitochondrial dysfunction
- How does it NOT present?
- Many estrogenic effects from mycotoxinsHeavy bleeding
- Fibroids
- Cramps
- Mycotoxins in animal feed are closely monitored due to their adverse reproductive effects
- Xeralone associated with infertility and pregnancy loss (GPL Mycotox)
- GALS mnemonic for hormonal challenges
- Gut-first place to lookDysbiosis
- Adrenals
- Lyme
- Physical stress
- EMF toxicity
- Overall stress
- Multitasking more than ever
- Adrenals also effect the gut
- Blood sugars climb,
- Insulin resistance
- “Estrogen Dominance” is a misnomer
- Cortisol is made at the expense of Progesterone
- Progesterone drops—adrenal is more involved than the ovary
- Happens to men too
- Xenoestrogens are often involved
- Progesterone levels that are low can be supplemented
- Reduces vaginal bleeding days 10-12 of cycle until menses start
- Patient feels better overall
- May require a bit of estrogen as well.
- Perimenopause it’s used very frequently
- Difference between progestogens and progestins
- DHEA drops “the get up and go hormone”
- Estrogens can recycle from the GI tract
- We talk about Addison’s & Cushing’s, but there’s also dysregulation/dysfunction of adrenals due to mycotoxins
- Immune suppressant effect of mold increases Lyme and other susceptibilities
- Nutritional Adrenal Support
- To much or to little cortisol?
- Licorice can help if low cortisol
- Apoptogenic effect
- High Cortisol
- Phosphatidyl serine has an adaptogenic effect
- Ashwagandha
- Astralgus
- Cutting sugar/carbsSugar increases serotonin quickly then plummets
- Get stress under control
- Physical
- Emotional
- Both together?
- Exercise as tolerated
- Breathing
- Emotional freedom
- Tapping
- Go to bed earlier
- Turn off the TV
- Liver
- NASH
- Infertility is a big and growing issue
- Cleaning up the gut
- Eliminating the toxins
- Pregnancy ensues
- Dioxins & Endometriosis
- Weight
- Affects Hypothalamus & Leptin receptors
- Mold toxins and other toxins involved
- Weight loss resistance
- Mold is a big cause due to hypothalamic effect
- Genetic profiling to figure out what food plan to use
- Address hypothalamic-pituitary axis first
- When adrenals are corrected, weight tends to come down
- Some women get anxious as they lose weight-may have Hx sexual abuse
- Weight is protective/padding
- What happens in childhood often affects us later in life
- Score of 4 or more, 65% higher risk of heart disease
- 1200% higher risk of suicide
- We have to “look in the mirror” to recognize this in ourselves—few folks want to do that.
- Are you still trying to be perfect, get your parents to love you, etc…
- Need to reactivate the frontal lobe instead of relying on the primitive midbrain
- Amygdala & Limbic retraining
- Even witnessing violence on TV can cause problems/be traumatic for some folks
- 1/3 women, 1/5-6 men have hx of sexual violation
- “If you don’t deal with your stress & your story, it will deal with you!”
- Filling out lengthy questionnaires about psych hx can be therapeutic
- Alcohol/Addiction
- Food/Drugs/Alcohol helps deal with stress by raising serotonin, which then plummets, and the stress is back
- Addictions will not fix the underlying problem—aggravated by mold
- Holocaust survivors have been documented to have 3 generations of adverse effect
- Go online to figure your ACE score
- Alcohol also feeds the fungal overgrowth I the gut/SIFO
- Hormones/estrogens metabolized by the same enzymes as EtOH aggravating estrogen dominance
- Online Ace score Adverse Childhood Events
- Resiliency Score
- PTSD is the freezing of the primitive brain amygdala response
- Mold can worsen this too
- PTSD can be improved with therapy, understanding people in your life
- Affects Hypothalamus & Leptin receptors
- Weight
How did I get here, how do I get out of here?
et out of here?
