Having practiced surgical ENT for the first 25 years of medical practice before migrating to environmental medicine 20 years ago, I have found nasal saline irrigation alone (I prefer the NeilMed rinse kit to the Neti pot) to be amazingly effective at reducing nasal biotoxins and chemical toxins not to mention pollen and other particulates.  I really never have found that you can clear the nose and paranasal sinuses from Staph (MARCONS, MRSA or otherwise) and I have never been convinced that they are as problematic from a symptom perspective as nasal/sinus pathogens like Pseudomonas and even fungi like Aspergillus. The biofilms seem to be the real bugaboo.  I buy bottles of 17% aqueous EDTAfrom Vista Dental and Polysorbate 20-we provide the patients with 10ml dropper bottles of each since it is so inexpensive and advise patients to alternate 4 drops of each every other day in their NeilMed saline rinse bottle (I encourage DISTILLED water with the buffered salt packages for the saline).  I then have the patients spray Results RNA ACS200 nasal spray colloidal silver 2 sprays in each nostril and hang head back for about 5 minutes once a day.  I have them do this protocol for about 2-3 weeks.  At the end after discontinuing the colloidal silver, I have them add 1/16th tsp of the L. sakeii powder from Apothex once a week for 3 applications continuing the saline rinses all the while.  (I’m pretty sure that snorting the probiotic powder directly would also work.)  This seems to reverse nasal symptoms as well as anything else I have found and is really affordable and doable for my patients.  I doubt that I am ever going to avoid Staph recolonization especially given all the immune dysfunction I see due to the stealth infections and mycotoxin effects these patients seem to have.

Attention to immune system restoration has to be a primary focus for success as well, IMHO.

This are some notes about MARCoNS treatment I shared with another email list.  I think members here may find them useful in thinking about how to handle the increasingly common problems recurrent and treatment resistant MARCONS.

There is no research that associates MARCoNS with CIRS.  I am only aware of two papers from Australia about 2004 that associate coagulase negative staph with facial pain.  There are lots of papers that show cog neg staph is a biofilm maker and creates serious issues with implanted devices but nothing about what it does it in the nose.

However treating nasal MARCONS has become quite an industry.  For some patients it is a game changer especially with cognitive and psychiatric symptoms.  Dental MARCONS is also documented, and treating cavitations can also be a game changer.  Since I have no idea who it is going to help I do test and treat MARCoNS.  About 50 percent clear on the first try with EDTA/silver, and these are most likely to feel it is beneficial.  However Mixtures new way of having the patient mix silver separately because of the FDA compound list doesn’t seem to work as well – perhaps patient error in application.

And then there is the other 50 percent who don’t clear..  I have multiple documented cases where each antibiotic treatment seems to create increasing resistance, including vanc and gent resistance, putting to rest the strange idea that only antifungals cause van/gent resistance. I am putting together PowerPoints of for the ISEAI conf of a young man with Lyme and mold who has been treated since 2016 antibiotics, antifungals, EDTA, herbals and who has only developed more resistance with each attempt. I have even seen two patients treated with silver who developed vanc I .  How does that happen?

I use herbals now – CSA or Biocidin LS, for the second attempt. Both seem to work about the same.  I get people to the dentist quickly for root canals and cavitations.  I test and treat household partners and dogs. But bottom line is there are about 20 percent of people whose immune system simply cannot clear MARCONS, and I refuse to keep trying to kill it after three to four attempts.  I use the nasal probiotic L Sakeii and nasal sinus rinses in this population while we continue to work on the underlying illness

I also encourage everyone to practice nasal hygiene with sinus rinses in the same way we routinely wash our hands and brush our teeth.  Makes no sense to ignore the nose esp. when you think about what the nose is trying to filter

I wonder if the dementia population has a healthier immune system  I can’t imagine clearing MARCONS in everyone in one try in the population I see. However when I treat household partners who are not sick – they almost all clear easily with whatever treatment I offer.

Bottom line  – the whole area would really benefit from a lot more research and documentation of effectiveness

L; Sakeii can be bought on amazon from Apothex – evidently a compounding pharmacy in Minn

There are various ways to use it.  The easiest is snorting a white powder, something many people have seen done in the movies J.  This site is an excellent source of info about l Sakeii

You can also essentially ferment L Sakeii and use as a sinus rinse.  More preparation time, probably more effective   Even for people without MARCONS l Sakeii seems quite helpful for allergies and chronic sinusitis

Klinghardt is doing something very similar using Megaspore probiotic.  My problem with recommending Megaspore is that its yet another thing going up the nose that we have no research on .  At least L Sakeii has some research that it is part of the nasal biome.

CSA is Cryptolepis, Sida and Alchornea with White Cedar and Goldenseal flower.  Buhner recommends it for MARCONS.  Cryptolepis has been shown effective against MRSA.  Its available from Woodland Essences

In general my favorite new tool for MARCoNS is the NeilMed sinus rinse bottle.  So much easier than a neti pot, and most people feel a significant difference in nasal congestion just from learning to rinse their sinuses   Any MARCONS experiment should be judged against just using a nasal saline rinse.  Since as a culture we are not taught to keep our sinuses clean I believe some of the beneficial effects we all see in treating MARCoNS are simply from cleaning our nasal filters.  It’s like teaching people to brush their teeth – it would be a gamechanger if you didn’t know how to brush.
